Q:Why are you doing this?
A:We believe that people in general should have a choice of therapies available to them and that the services traditionally offered through the NHS are not the only therapies that may help an individual.

Q:What private services are available?
A:At present the following services are available (as at Spring 2016). For details of these services please see our Services page or our leaflets in FV Health leaflet rack.

Q:What do they cost?
A:Each of these services has a different price and a full price list is available at reception and on our website (www.fromevalleyhealth.co.uk) on the Charges page

Q:Why are these services not free?
A:The NHS funds GPs to provide certain specified services and does not fund the GPs to do more than this. If the GPs would like to offer services that the NHS does not offer, there is no NHS budget to cover this.

Q:But should not the NHS provide these free to pensioners?
A:The NHS does not discriminate on any basis, including age. NHS services that are offered are provided on the basis of clinical need only.

Q:How much do the Partners at FVMC earn from this?
A:Well that depends on the service. If the service is supplied by an independent practitioner, they pay a small service charge to the medical centre for use of the facilities. If medical centre staff provide the service, then the Partners will receive the whole fee but from this they will need to fund the costs of providing that service.

Q:Are these services safe?
A:Every practitioner operating from these premises is required to maintain membership of the appropriate professional body and to carry full medical indemnity and public liability insurance cover.

Q:Does this mean there will be less ordinary NHS appointments
A:These services are on top of the normal NHS services offered by Frome Valley Medical Centre. These services are regulated by South Glos PCT and they will continue to monitor that Frome Valley Medical Centre meets its NHS obligations in full.

Q:Who do I pass comments or complaints to about these private services?
A:If you have comments or suggestions about these services, please pass them to Vicky Elliott, the Practice Manager at Frome Valley Medical Centre.
